Vice-President of the Costa Rica Republic.
Vice-President of the Costa Rica Republic. She has signed and defended the Consultation that the State of Costa Rica made to Inter-American Court on same-sex couples and trans people's rights, with the intention of fostering legal security in the region. In 2015, she promoted the public policy for Inclusion and Non-Discrimination towards LGBTI people which made the Executive Branch of government free from discrimination towards LGBTI people and allowed trans students to be recognized by the Ministriy for Public Education and the National Institute of Learning.
In her legislative work, she has promoted legislation for same-sex couples, as well as legislation on sexual and reproductive health, and a comprehensive HIV / AIDS policy. As Deputy Minister of Security, she developed protocols to care for LGBTI population and training processes for the police force. Previously, she was commissioned by the Global Commission on HIV and the UN Development Program.
