Pride events are held throughout the year and nearly everywhere in the world. This workshop, based on the Pride Radar Report 2017, focuses on how the Pride movement is in uenced by the countries in which such celebrations and protests are held — and by countries that prohibit them. In showcasing several examples of how Prides worldwide challenge the sexual and gender construct, Pride Radar aims to develop strategies to defend Human Rights where state limitations are found. Understanding how states enforce constructs of sexuality and gender will increase the e ciency and e ectiveness of attempts to challenge the borders of diversity.

VIOLENCE AND BULLYING

The heteronormative, patriarchal laws and traditions that make up our society often damage what is seen as di erent. Members of the LGBTQIA+ community, like those of so many minorities, are vulnerable to physical and verbal assaults, school bullying, and a high murder and suicide rate — especially in countries seen as “less tolerant” or even hostile. How do we collectively condemn such injustices? How does homophobia start? Where does it finish?

THE CURRENT SITUATION OF LGBTQIA+ HUMAN RIGHTS IN THE WORLD

The Madrid Summit has the duty of denouncing the numerous Human Rights violations that are taking place around the world, and aims to put an end to these injustices. With the support of the Ayuntamiento de Madrid and the Comunidad de Madrid, the opening ceremony will o cially inaugurate a progressive dialogue which will take place throughout the conference thanks to the involvement of people from all around the globe who will come together to establish the next hurdles to overcome in the creation of the Madrid Summit Declaration.
